WHISPERING GOLD MINE
CHAPTER 2
“This is so exciting,” said Penny.
The walls were dirt and rock.
The air was cool. It felt damp. Timmy wrinkled his nose. “It smells old and wet and dirty,” he said.
Charlotte sniffed. Like a cave, she thought. She knew what a cave was. Only this cave had lights. Lights on wires along the ceiling.
Charlotte wrote in her notebook.
mines are like caves.
The guide pointed to the hat on his head.
Rocks can fall. the miners wore hard hats like this. You will all have to wear one,” he said.
The man went over to a shelf. He gave hats to Penny and Timmy.
Timmy put his hat on. "Now I'm a real miner," he said.
The man found a small hat for Charlotte.
“Here you go,” he said.
The hat was heavy. It hung over her eyes.
All Charlotte could see was the dirt floor. And feet.
Lots of feet.
Then came a loud roaring and banging.
